Circumcision is a surgical intervention through which the excess foreskin, the skin that covers the penile glans, is removed.
The procedure can be performed for medical reasons, as well as for aesthetic or personal reasons.
At Swan Clinic, the intervention is performed under maximum safety conditions, using modern techniques and with special attention to achieving an optimal functional and aesthetic result.
When is circumcision recommended?
Circumcision may be indicated in the following situations:
- Phimosis, narrowing of the foreskin that does not allow proper retraction
- Paraphimosis, blockage of the foreskin behind the glans
- Recurrent infections, such as balanitis or balanoposthitis
- Difficult hygiene or local discomfort
- Aesthetic reasons or personal preferences
How the procedure is performed
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, and in certain cases with mild sedation.
The intervention involves:
- Controlled excision of the excess foreskin
- Careful hemostasis to minimize bleeding
- Aesthetic suturing with fine, resorbable sutures
The duration of the intervention is, on average, 30 to 60 minutes, and the patient can go home on the same day.
Recovery
The recovery period is relatively quick, but it requires following medical instructions, such as:
- Maintaining strict local hygiene
- Avoiding intense physical effort for 1 to 2 weeks
- Sexual abstinence for approximately 4 to 6 weeks, until complete healing
- Wearing loose underwear for optimal comfort
Mild swelling and local sensitivity are normal during the first few days and gradually decrease.
Complete healing usually takes place within 3 to 4 weeks.
