Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator based on poly-L-lactic acid, PLLA, created to reactivate the natural production of collagen in the deep dermis.
The result is subtle volume, firmness, elasticity, and visibly better skin quality, with a natural appearance and without an artificial look.
With age, collagen synthesis progressively decreases, and the effects can be seen through:
- Laxity, softer and less firm skin
- Volume loss in the cheeks, temples, and jawline
- More pronounced wrinkles and folds
- Uneven texture
- Tired appearance
Sculptra does not “fill” like a classic filler. Instead, it stimulates the skin to rebuild its own collagen, providing a gradual and stable rejuvenating effect.
PLLA microparticles are placed in the deep dermis, triggering controlled stimulation of fibroblasts.
Through the gradual increase in collagen production, the treatment helps rebuild the skin’s “foundation” from within.
It is suitable for both women and men, especially when the skin appears looser, recovers more slowly after the “pinch test,” or has lost elasticity and contour.
Treatment areas
Depending on anatomy and goals, the treatment may target:
- Cheekbones and cheeks
- Temples
- Jawline
- Sometimes selected areas for facial harmony and support
The treatment plan is established strictly during the consultation, depending on facial proportions and skin quality.
How the procedure is performed
The procedure includes:
- Evaluation and medical photographs, optional, for monitoring
- Cleaning and disinfection
- Local anesthesia, cream and/or in solution, for comfort
- Injection with a fine needle or cannula, in the indicated planes
- Post-procedure recommendations
Post-procedure recommendations
For uniform distribution and minimal risk of nodules, the “5-5-5” rule is frequently recommended:
- Massage for 5 minutes
- 5 times per day
- For 5 days
Or according to the doctor’s instructions.
Immediately after the procedure, it is recommended to follow specific instructions:
- Apply cold compresses if needed during the first 24 hours
- Avoid intense physical effort for 24 to 48 hours
- Avoid sauna, tanning beds, and intense sun exposure for a few days
- Perform the recommended massage gently, without irritating the treated area
Possible side effects
Although it is a safe procedure, adverse side effects may appear, such as:
- Redness
- Mild swelling
- Sensitivity
- Mild bruising
- Small temporary indurations
In much rarer cases, more serious adverse side effects have been observed, such as:
- Nodules or papules, usually preventable through correct technique and massage
- Vascular complications, very rare but serious
Contraindications
The procedure is not recommended if the patient is in one of the following situations or suffers from:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Active infections or inflammation in the treated area
- Certain autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatments, decided medically
- Coagulation disorders
